Winter schedule for meetings:

Our winter schedule for meetings will have them on the first Monday of the month at the Valley Community Center in Fort Shaw.

Board meetings will convene at 1:00 PM, general meetings at 2:00 PM.

We will not have meetings in December and January due to the likelihood of inclement weather.

The November, 2024 meeting will feature a presentation by John Bennett on the Sun River Valley’s place in Montana History.

The February, 2025 meeting will feature a presentation by Don Ensley with his toy soldiers collection illustrating the life of the Army at Fort Shaw.”

Fun Activities at the Fort

Third Saturday Tours

In 2025 we will host Open House on the third Saturday of the month from May until September. We will host visitors from one until six P.M. for tours and presentations of lectures and exhibits by local historians about the lifestyle of the fort and its soldiers.

The third Saturday tours host an open house at the fort from 1:00 until 6:00 PM. Exhibits and presentations are a key feature of these events. This summer’s will include a presentation by John Bennett titled “The Sun River Valley’s Place in Montana History” and a presentation by area artists actually creating pieces of art on the Fort grounds.

Meetings:

We are going to hold our meetings from June until September, 2025 in the evenings to attempt to attract new members. Meetings will be on the first Monday of the month at 7:00 P.M. except for September. We will hold it on the 8th of the month to avoid conflicting with the Labor Day holiday.

Family and group tours may be scheduled by calling Burnette at 406-965-3025 or John at 406-231-8771. Or you can make your request to any member to be passed along for scheduling.

We especially enjoy visits from senior citizens’ groups and making tours and educational presentations for classes from area schools. We would be most interested in working with home schoolers, grade five or above.  Please call to schedule your group.

Drop by any time to enjoy our self-guided walking tour. Just stay on the path and follow the signs. Because of fire danger in the summer we do request you not smoke while on the walking tour.

The Military Cemetery will be available for viewing at any time. The American Legion will welcome you to a flag ceremony to honor our fallen military on Memorial Day morning.

And if John or Burnette are working in the area, you can most likely talk them into a tour of your very own!
