On Saturday, June 8th, we welcomed over 200 descendants of the members of the 1904 World Champion Basketball Team from the Fort Shaw Indian Industrial School. As well as extensive touring of the Fort, they participated in an awards ceremony hosted at the Fort Shaw Elementary School gym. Due to the number of folks who were related to each other as well as to the members of the basketball team, as the day progressed the atmosphere became more akin to a homecoming than a tour.
Activities at the fort included books sold at our Gift Shop. A prime feature was the sale of “Full Court Quest”, the story of the basketball team and its members, and a book signing by Linda Peavy, the surviving author.
An awards and recognition ceremony at the school was followed by a lively discussion and question and answer session.
All in all it was an outstanding day for all of us!
